January 2010 Happy New Year To All! There are of a lot of exciting adult education programs coming up and ongoing in 2010. Here are just a few! Introduction To Catholicism - “What It Means To Be Catholic” Introduction to Catholicism “What it Means To be Catholic”, a program designed for Catechists, parents, or any parishioner who would like to learn about their faith. Also good for a refresher course for those who desire it. The program meets on the 1st and 2ndThursdays of the month . The program consists of 30 sessions and will run from October to May this year and next it will conclude in May of 2011. The cost of the program will be $25 to cover the cost of the textbook. Registration is ongoing. Changes Coming In The Mass In the not-too-distant future, Catholics will see a number of changes to the language of the Mass, including many of the prayers and songs that have become second nature to Mass attendees. With the impending arrival of the new English translation of the Roman Missal in U.S. parishes, Catholics are being encouraged to start familiarizing themselves with the new responses and prayers. To ease in the transition, the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops has launched a website (www.usccb.org/romanmissal) which provides background on the translation of the Missal and a list of changes to the Mass that will impact priests and the laity. St. Bartholomew Adult Education will also be presenting updates and workshops on the changes in the Mass. Fundamentals of Catholicism Our popular apologetics series Fundamentals of Catholicism begins its Winter Session on Tuesday, February 2 at 7:00 pm. It runs for five consecutive Tuesdays until March 3. This year’s topic is “The Creed- Why We Believe What We Profess”. If you want to dig deeply into questions of Faith, then Fundamentals is for you. Registration is ongoing now. The cost for each participant is $20. If you participated in the Fall Sessions, the cost is free!
